Poor-Para-Opera

Founded by composer James Hazel in 2022, POOR OPERA is a working-class, aspirational para-opera company making cheap performances for audiences somewhere by working-class artists.
POOR OPERA is a project dedicated to composing “low-budget” operas and developing strategies for sonic experimentation through-and-with late-capitalist precarity.
Through workshops, publications, and support networks for working-class artists, POOR-OPERA builds anti-institutional coalitions and alternative infrastructures for making art and opera in a time of radial disaster.
